No Nikon wants people to buy the D1X, D2H.

Exactly - blatant profiteering. No thanks, Nikon. I didn't bite.

The D70 sells very well. That tells Nikon that they are doing the right
thing.

If they're doing so well, why are so many of us (not just me, locally)
dumping Nikons we've used for decades and going for Canons?

I fail to see why the bayonet mount from the D1 could not be used in

that
case. It's cheaper just to make one mount and use it universally than to
make several.

Yes, you have a point. I can't recall on which (if any) previous body the
D70 was based.

Cheers,

Maybe ... The T-90 is a great camera.

Where are you, what kind of condition, and what canon lenses?

Probably because by having having the same kit for decades you've not been
generating revenue for Nikon. Money talks. :-)

Hopefully you are doing that because the complete package (camera plus AF
lenses) from Canon is better then what Nikon has to offer.

I think that (for dSLRs with APS sized sensors) Nikon has better wide angle
support, and Canon may have better long lenses. (And Nikon has nothing
comparable to the 1D mark II and the 1Ds, but then we are no longer talking
about the limitations of the D70).

Happy users talk well of their equipment. Happy users are good advertising.
Unhappy users are bad advertising - worse than anything else.

I am unhappy with Nikon. I advise everybody to follow my lead and ditch
their increasingly incompatible lens system and go for Canon instead.

Actually, I find the canon to be smaller and lighter. I'm not a fan of
plastic - hence I stayed with my FMs, MD12s etc for so long but the 300D
really seems to be a super camera.

I've only got the one lens at the moment. I aim to build up to my FM
equivalent of 24 - 600 eventually though. I did have two FM bodies. I'm not
so sure I'll have 2 300Ds. I might add a film camera though. Mayve an EOS 1
or something like that.
