Default Weird circles on hassy focusing screen (moist-problem ?)

Hello,

This afternoon, I took my baby (you know, the one with the cute winding
crank ;-) ) out for a bicycle ride. At a certain point I wanted to make a
picture, and a drop of sweat fell on the magnifying glass. I hadn't noticed
aonther drop falling on the focusing screen ...
A few km further, I took out the camera again, and noticed a 'black' circle
on the focusing screen. Closer inspection learned that the circle actually
consisted of a collection of very narrow concentric circles.

I assume the acute matte-focusing screens are made of two layers of glass
(one fresnel- and one ground glass ?), and that a drop of sweat made it's
way between them.

Can I fix this, and - if so - how ?

Thx,

Philippe

If that is the case, you probably need to send it in to Hasselblad for
cleaning. I had a problem with obsessive compulsive behavior with mine. I
THOUGHT I had some dirt on the surface, and the more I cleaned it, the
dirtier it got. Come to find out, static electricity from rubbing, was
sucking dust in between the glass and fresnel. I had to get Hasselblad to
clean it. My bad.

So which of the 'blad family is your baby? You can remove the screen from
500c yourself to clean it. You can do the 500 as well; just do it carefully.
I don't know about the newer ones. But if it's only a bit dirty, it still
focuses properly.

It's a 503CW. I took out the screen yesterday evening to clean both sides.
After developing the negs, I noticed it still focuses perfectly; it's just
very annoying - imagine having a black circle the size of the focusing
screen 'helping' you to compose your image ...

I suppose it's impossible to separate the tow layers of glass yourself for
cleaning.

Having it cleaned by the Hassis in person ? Won't it be cheaper to
immediately buy a new chunk of glass ? ;-)

At $250 for a new screen? I don't know that you can find a glass piece of
quality to fit, or whether you can bend the frame to replace the glass and
bend it back without destroying the frame.
