But sometimes you just have to have a little fun. I.e. I couldn't afford
the expedition to South America to find the real bird eating spiders.

Ha!
I was just about to say...where I was born and lived in South America
(Colombia), we actually had spiders that caught and ate both birds...and
FISH!!
They would build long, net-like webs over streams, and catch fish that jump
out of the water. Truly amazing. I often think to myself, "Who taught them
how to do that?"

Amazing.
That's why, when I looked at your image, the thought crossed my mind that it
could be real...except that I saw Jim's post of the same spider yesterday.

I did.....In my youth, I spent a number of years in the Colombian river
basins training river spiders at the request of the Colombian government. It
was all part of a project aimed at preventing the extinction of the river
fly, which was necessary to feed the famous Colombian river frogs.......

Evolution is driven by neccesity, as I'm sure you know... nature
still provides amazing cases of "how did they evolve to 'that'!"

Cheers,
Alan

Oddly enough, I thought somebody would raise that. We are
probably the least specialized animal on the planet ... except
for one detail...
