Default Canon IXUS 55 vs Casio EXILIM EX-Z60

Can anyone recommend one of these cameras above the other?

I'm due to start a degree in graphic design later this month and we've
been told we'll need a decent digital camera at some point. I'd been
looking already and was edging towards the Casio, whereas the course
tutor has recommended the Canon.

Anyone able to offer any info?

Thanks.

I'd recommend comparing them side-by-side at DPReview.

I've got a Canon IXUS 55 (aka SD450) and I'd say its biggest plus is
that it has an optical viewfinder. That gives the edge in bright
lighting conditions and holding the eyepiece against your forehead
reduces camera shake.

It is also listed as including a charger, although I'd be surprised if
the Casio didn't too.

The Canon is a great little slip-into-pocket-or-purse camera but I
really miss its not having the image stabiliser my main camera has
(Panasonic FZ30). I would consider foregoing the optical viewfinder for
the stabiliser included with most of the Panasonic range.
