thing to have in a large-format gadget bag / darkroom
for lens retaining rings.

Thanks. I missed the original post. This would be nifty
to try next time I find a lens of dubious character.

I would not use this on any photographic lens or other
high quality optic. It will ruin a lens coating and will
disturb the figure of the lens.
There is no fix for scratched lenses other than
repolishing the surface. That can be done if the scratches
are not too deep, deep scratches can be polished out but may
change the thickness of the element enough to change the
properties of the lens.
