Very nice, but a couple of comments: straighten the horizon, crop
most of the shore view at the bottom, and clone out the tiny bird on
the right. The colors are great, though.

It looks like a fairly long exposure, and that makes the water look
interestingly silky. That allows the sky color to dominate. Good
choice.

Thanks, Tony. Great points.
The shutter was actually pretty fast, 1/800 @ ISO 800.

I'm jealous. Are the birds starting to come in?

Do you live near there?

My comments.
It's a nice sky. The dark foreground is distracting to my eye, and the
horizon is not straight. If it was my image I would crop out all the
land in the foreground, slightly apply the clarity & sliders in ACR &
make a slight levels adjustment to put the pelican into a full
silhouette. Something like this:

The pelicans seem to be always there. Often there are more dolphins.

This is the same spot I captured my luckiest shot yet:

My advice would be to crop about half (not most) of the shore, and also some
on the left (maybe enough to maintain the original aspect ratio). The tiny
bird may not survive the rotational correction, which may be as much as 3°; if
he does, cropping him out may work as well as cloning him out.

FWIW, I especially *like* the shore. It has that
unique lighting one sees at the moment before dark.
I find that evocative. I also like the gentle swells.
Those two put me in the scene, at the moment.
I could do without the bird, and beautiful sunsets,
like cute babies, are a dime-a-dozen. I think the
shot would be more interesting, and very intimate,
with just a hint of "residue" sunset, cropped just
above the low cloud bank, and maybe just a tad of
brightening on the shore.

Maybe I'm slightly swayed because I'm sitting in
a chilly house, waiting for a northeaster to hit, so I
want to be on that beach. Thank you for the image.

Do you mean something like this? (Not a sunset, but the principle s the
same.)

Not really, but that's certainly an interesting one. It
looks almost Martian. I assume the colors have been
enhanced? It's interesting how your image really does
look like dawn -- hopeful, optimistic. And the other photo
really does look like sunset, with a sense of ending,
intimacy. Yet presumably the same light/image could
be achieved at either time. ...Maybe it comes down to
what the eye of the beholder was looking for.
