Photography is in-part "devolving" into high-end audio-speak, as far as VIDEO is concerned
Alfred Molon:
Actually 8K video is coming, and there is nothing wrong with that. Don't see where it makes much difference, given that most viewers can't distinguish between 720p and 4k at normal viewing distances. The hype is all about higher profits from the gullible. -- I agree with almost everything that you have said and almost everything that you will say in your entire life. usenet *at* davidillig dawt cawm |

Actually 8K video is coming, and there is nothing wrong with that. For sure not everybody will need it, but having a 8K video capture option could turn out to be useful in some scenarios. If it's significantly (10% or so) beyond visual acuity it is invisible and meaningless other than to enlarge an image to crop out some detail. I still have a 1080p plasma screen (sort of "2K") from about 2006 and it is fine for DVD and BR. Most BR's are beautiful in their rendition quality when the screen is viewed at a "normal" distance. Netflix fare at HD such as the recent "Our Planet" has spectacular cinematography (STUNNING actually), and the 1080p does it great justice (more for the plasma than the resolution - LCD sets from that era are just crap in comparison - I digress). I could "upgrade" to a 65" 4K display (4x bandwidth for 2x resolution), but I doubt, once a movie is playing, that I'd notice the difference. 6K is laughable for recording to post - though it could of course be useful for cinematic fare. And when I think how heavy it is to process 2.7K video from my drone, 6K is insane for video and would require that I replace my computer just for basic editing and rendering. In the end, the reference camera is for "numbers marketing". It may be useful for some pros, but for amateurs (and most pros) it's overkill of overkill. -- "Even with the brain dead, the pig's heart keeps on beating... sort of like ... pick a Kardashian." -Anthony Bourdain, Parts Unknown |

It's a Panasonic Lumix.Â* It's not aimed at the professional market. Why do you believe that? What Lumix camera is this? However, in the still-camera world, the Lumix line accepts some of the best Leica lenses made. Many pros have used them for years, and now that they're L-Mount, those who use other cameras, such as the Sony, that are compromised by comparison will be looking hard at the Lumix. In the pro-video world, Panasonic, Sony and JVC have a long history of being top-sellers (30+ years). Combined with top-quality lenses, they will be hard to beat. Bust, none of that speaks to the 8k format, and I don't even like the 4k format much. -- best regards, Neil |
