Default HDR with RAW output

Are there cameras whch can generate HDR images in RAW format with a
large number of bits/pixel, for instance 16-20 bit per colour channel?

Not to my knowledge.

There is software which will give you the ability to generate and edit
32-bit HDR files from 12 or 14-bit RAW exposure bracketed image files.
The place to start is with Adobe's "Merge to HDR" in Photoshop and
Lightroom. Though these days with the deep DR available out of some of
the recent APS-C cameras such as the D500 and X-T2, and many of the FF
offerings, HDR is becoming less of a solution for shadow detail
recovery than in the past.

Then there is other software such as Aurora HDR and Pinnacle Imaging's
HDR Expose 3 and 32 Float v3 which both do 32-bit editing from RAW
files.

With care with exposure. "single shot HDR" from one base ISO raw file
from the D300 I used to have was perfectly adequate unless you wanted to
push shadows etc to an unnatural (IMO) looking extreme.
By about the D7000/800, (IMO again) multi shot HDR was redundant, unless
you needed to shoot at high ISO.
