Default Minolta Xg LCD Screen

The LCD monitor is washed-out in sunlight making the it unusable out of
doors. The monitor brightness control does not provide sufficient
adjustment to compensate for sunlight.

I addressed this issue to Konica-Minolta and received the following
disappointing response:

"Sunlight may wash out the LCD monitor, there is no correction for this."

Since the optical viewfinder covers about 75% of the captured image, it
is very difficult to frame the picture without using the LCD.

I am very disappointed in what is otherwise an excellent pocket-sized
camera.

This is pretty typical of non-swivel LCD screens.

ok if you br stuck there is a gizmo that fits around the LCD. It is a
bellows based device and helps to keep a bit of that solar radiation off and
away from the LCD

BTW if you think it is bad now wait until you get on light colored sand or
snow - with mucho uv & sunlight hitting the LCD (including reflections from
your own white shirt) the screen goes a murky grey very quickly

The small digital camera I have has an optical arrangement with a todge of
parallax error (I hope that is the word - otherwise worldwide stupidity
award goes my way :-)

I can't understand why some well branded makes have dispensed with
alternative viewfinders altogether
