Physiograms - with moving camera
I hope this is on-topic here.
I have uploaded 2 galleries of physiograms to my photography site. One has 40 images of physiograms, with the camera as well as the light bulb moving. The other takes 20 of those original physiograms, and runs them through Photoshop filters. http://www.barry.pearson.name/photography/ I have uploaded a few web pages describing how the original physiograms were taken. One of the pages describes how the combined motions add up to interesting effects. http://www.barry.pearson.name/articles/physiograms/ The original physiograms were taken while I was at school, 40 years ago! Were they a one-off? Does anyone know of any similar photographic images? -- Barry Pearson http://www.barry.pearson.name/ http://www.birdsandanimals.info/ |

They were often made with two signal generators and an oscilloscope or modified TV set: "You are now entering the Twilight Zone..." These days they are digital: http://www.math.com/students/wonders...lissajous.html -- Nicholas O. Lindan, Cleveland, Ohio Consulting Engineer: Electronics; Informatics; Photonics. These days they are digital: http://www.math.com/students/wonders...lissajous.html Some of them are indeed Lissajous figures. Most are not. One of the articles I mentioned explains how the shapes are formed. It describes 3 types. One simply involves putting the camera on a record turntable! Another set are Lissajous figures. The most interesting and complex figures are twin-elliptical figures. (Lissajous figures are a limiting case of twin-elliptical figures, of course, but I separated them out). The extended set is described in: http://www.barry.pearson.name/articl...ams/shapes.htm There is also a spreadsheet at that page that will draw Lissajous figures and twin-elliptical figures. -- Barry Pearson http://www.Barry.Pearson.name/ http://www.BirdsAndAnimals.info/ |
