Default Starter Field Camera

1. Shen Hao HZX 4X5-IIA
2. Toyo 45 CF

I think that either of these cameras would serve you well. There were initial
concerns (when the camera first came out) about the 45CF's build quality, but I
haven't seen any complaints on the Internet about that for some time now. You
may want to look into that issue before you buy.

So far as my own needs go, I find that the back standard movements of the Shen
Hao , which the 45CF doesn't have, are convenient enough to throw the choice to
the Shen Hao -- for me. The 45CF is a bit lighter, which would have been very
welcome, but doing without rear tilt and swing is enough of a pain in the butt
that I'll carry the extra three pounds.
