My website revamped - opinions needed!
A few weeks back there was some animated discussion on one of these
groups about the way my (then) website wouldn't work in certain browsers because of the method of using pop-up windows to display the photographs. Well, ever inventive I decided to re-do the whole dang thing from scratch again (even if the previous incarnation was only less than a month old). So here now, for the firt time, is the new and hopefully improved www.dallasdahms.com which I am pleased to say has no pop up windows and, believe it or not, not a single HTML table either! I've gone from over 100 html pages to around 13. I have been steadily teaching myself how to use Dreamweaver and I have discovered that the use of layers instead of tables allows for a lot more flexibility when it comes to creativity. Unfortunately my technical skills are not as finely honed as my creative ones, so there was quite a bit I would have liked to have done with this version of the site that I just couldn't figure out a workable solution to. For instance, when you click on one of the photo catagories I have set a behaviour to pre-load all the images on click. It would have been great to show some kind of a progress bar and then rather than have the user see then come up bit by bit. I found an extension by Yaromat that claims to offer such a thing, but either I'm too stupid to figure it out or it doesn't work (I can't seem to use any of the extensions he's created). Anyway, I've tested the site in four browsers and it seems to work pretty well in all of them. Your input into the new design would be greatly appreciated. -- DD www.leica.co.za www.dallasdahms.com |

Working now, quite like it. I think I detected a horizon that could be
straightened though. "DD (Rox)" wrote in message ... Very nice work. It's fast and smooth to load and works exactly the same
in IE 6 and Mozilla. Just one smallish thing. I find the main body text quite difficult to read from a normal viewing distance. Perhaps if you made the text just slightly brighter to increase the contrast against the black background. Otherwise it's a good job. Clean and simple and no nonsense, I like it. Yep, I noticed that as well. It's the one with the kid fishing and the
city in the background (Photos/oth/oth_set1_img2_FULL.jpg I think). I checked in Photoshop and the horizon appears to be tilted about 0.65 degrees to the right. Working now, quite like it. I think I detected a horizon that could be straightened though. |

I'd like the text to be both larger and brighter. The low-contrast, low line height, small character texts remind me of the low-talkers: they are quiet so if you want to hear them you have to lean in and concentrate. Kind of a manipulative ploy, my view. From the few I've bothered to read it seems small-texters have little to say when they say it little: the "style" is the message. -- Frank ess A few weeks back there was some animated discussion on one of these groups about the way my (then) website wouldn't work in certain browsers because of the method of using pop-up windows to display the photographs.
