which Nikkor?
i have to choose between getting a 35/2 AI or 50/1.8 AIS. which lens
has better contrast and is more sharp? I'll be doing a lot of street shooting and all around photography (lots of people shots as well)...on my FE2. Anyone own both? or have experie3nce with both? flat out, which is a better lens. |

According to David Reuther http://www.ferrario.com/ruether/short They are both fine lenses, but the 50 mm f/1.8, stopped down a bit is the sharpest of the two. (and cheaper, too) |

There's a world of difference in terms of field of view in these two lenses. To me, 50mm is more telephoto than "normal", thus I'd take the 35mm every time for street photography, but that involves a lot of personal preference. To me, they are not interchangeable. The 50 1.8 is undoubtedly the sharper of the two lenses, though perhaps only marginally so. See what David Ruether has to say about them: http://www.ferrario.com/ruether/slemn.html -- Regards, Matt Clara www.mattclara.com |

It is my favorite for street and also museums that allow non-flash photography. For me, 50mm brings you in too close for context but not close enough for intimacy. You might want to consider adding the 85mm f/1.4 AIS, a seriously nice lens, for the latter. This is my favorite for non-flash head and shoulder couple shots at parties. |
