good intermediate digital camera?

You might check the Kodak DX6440/7440 for 'pocketable' size. I would
HOPE that there will soon be a 7490 to enhance the line as well. All
the cameras mentioned have all the features you require.

You made a good choice, but there are others that might do just as well.

From the sound of your email, it appears you are really after good point and
shoot type camera that you can count on. If you want to grow into something
more sophisticated later, then the DX6490 is a good choice as it has lots of
great features. If you do not plan on doing any creative or more
sophisticated shooting then look at some of the others that are out there
now. If you want to spend the money for a good camera like the DX6490, then
for around $300 US you can get some really nice cameras. For less than
that, you can get the DX6440 which has lots of features it is a 4 megapixel
camera and several preset modes for general use. The more current 7000
series cameras will provide the same but with additional easy to use
features.
