Ebay all over the place
OK, looking at these two auctions which have already closed, why did one
folder go for over $300 while the other topped out under $30? Overpriced Zeiss Super Ikonta B or a collectors item? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...3873 268&rd=1 Overlooked baby Zeiss or a bargain? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...43045 52&rd=1 |

The later is highly desirable. Overlooked baby Zeiss or a bargain? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...43045 52&rd=1 Not an appealing camera. Not in excellent condition, no rangefinder, so-so lens. |

OK, looking at these two auctions which have already closed, why did one folder go for over $300 while the other topped out under $30? They are very different cameras. Overpriced Zeiss Super Ikonta B or a collectors item? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...3873 268&rd=1 (Super Ikonta B post-war version) This is a user camera. It has a coated Tessar lens, a rangefinder, and a synchronised shutter and takes 12 6x6 negatives on 120. This is a serious quality medium format camera. The old folders with the combination of a coated tessar type lens, a synchonised shutter and coupled rangefinder focusing are very much in demand: the only cheapies in this category are the Soviet Moskva and Iskra folders. West German cameras of this type (and the East German Certo 6) tend to fetch good money, $365 is a pretty normal price. Overlooked baby Zeiss or a bargain? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...43045 52&rd=1 (Baby Ikonta). This one is a collectors item. It takes 16 3x4cm pictures on a roll of 127 film. The negatives are only a tiny bit larger than those on 35mm film. It doesn't have the optical quality or the precision to make the most of the small negative. It is fun to use cameras like this, but it isn't likely to get you as good results as a decent 35mm camera, especially given the limited film choices. It is a fairly common camera and not in good enough condition to be worth much. Peter. -- |

This is a high quality 6X6 folder with zeiss optics and an optical coupled rangefinder in excellent condition. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...3873 268&rd=1 Overlooked baby Zeiss or a bargain? Neither, 127 film cheap novar lensed version with "open frame finder" guess focusing in average to poor condition, probably not worth much more than the $25 it sold for. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...43045 52&rd=1 -- Stacey |
