Default Graflex back on an RB67

A friend gave me two graflex backs, and they work on my RB67. Haven't run
any film through it yet, but does anyone know if they hold the film flat
enough for good quality results? Anyone have any experience with using these
with an RB?

I've not used them with an RB, but my experience is that the later 6x7 ones
hold the film very flat. The key point is that you want a pair of needle
like rollers each side of the film gate - these are part of the 'back' not
the 'insert'. The rule of thumb is that these are to be found on the backs
that advance with a lever, and generally aren't on those that advance with a
knob.

I've found the ones with the rollers are fine. Ones without are said not to
be, but I haven't used one - but if it is 'like the lever backs with
bearings, but not as good', then I'd get a lever one...

Graflex also made a 220 insert for the 6x7 backs, and (120 only) 6x6 and 6x9
backs. The 6x9 is actually much closer to a 6x8: since the RB can take
Mamiya's motorised 6x8 back it would be very interesting to see if one of
the (manual) Graflex ones fitted.

In general, these are nice backs, holding the film flat and spacing very
well. They are easy to load too.
