Portrait lens for C330s
Hi, I'd like some opinions on two lenses I'm considering for portrait work
with my C330s. 1. 180mm Super 2. 135mm I'm just interested in what some of you are using and why. Thanks, Mike |

1. 180mm Super 2. 135mm I'm just interested in what some of you are using and why. I used mostly the 135mm. I find the 180 a bit too long for my taste. Bokeh isn't that beautiful however. The 180 is much sharper, depending on what you're looking for. But I've been using a 105 DS recently, and it appears to be an excellent lens likely to replace the 135. Sharper, with a very nice focal length for portrait. It also has a DOF preview, which is quite useful. If you don't have one, try also to find a paramender, it is very convenient if your subject doesn't move. Portrait lens for C330s
I've used 135 and 180.
135 is razor sharp as is other. My opinion. THE best portrait set up there is is a mamiya tlr with 135. As theres only about 1 inch of parallax just frame slightly high. |

My opinion too :-) THE best portrait set up there is is a mamiya tlr with 135. You mean, of all MF cameras? Wow, I have one! As theres only about 1 inch of parallax just frame slightly high. Actually with the C330's parallax indicator this is not much of a problem. But the Pramender is more precise, and is very appreciable for studio work, and close-ups. -- Vincent Becker Photographies et appareils anciens - Photography and classic cameras URL:http://www.lumieresenboite.com |

Any views on the sharpness at the edges at wide apertures. My first test film is a bit soft in the corners and it was shot mainly at wide aperatures. It seems consistent with what I've seen. You'll find many informations on lenses on Bob Monaghan's website: http://medfmt.8k.com/mf/mamiyatlrlens.html Sharpness tests (as far as lpmm are concerned), and many user comments. And the optical formula of the lenses: http://medfmt.8k.com/mf/mamiyaclens.html Not very useful to choose an lens :-) but here we can see that the 135 is a venerable Tessar, which would explain softness in the corners at wide apertures.
