I'm not sure whether I'm inspired or intimidated by the wildlife
photographs that some of you have on display. But having decided to
give bird photography a go here are a few I've taken in the last few
days..

They're mainly 100% crops taken with a 350D and 100-400L.

And yes, I have a long way to go !

Tony,
Some of your photos aren't there...
I suggest you to use underscores (_) instead of spaces in the file
names: the %20 used by the web servers to replace the space makes the
link quite ugly.

I love to be mailed just by smart people:
perl -we 'print "\12\142\145\162\156\141\155\141\100\151".

Sorry Cyrus,

Just something I threw together in a hurry.. I left the 'dead' links in
as placeholders for future use.. Sheer lazyness. But thank you for the
advice.

First lesson:

Buzzard:

http://www.pbase.com/bret/image/28019171

Hawk:
http://www.pbase.com/bret/image/24561758
http://www.pbase.com/bret/image/61239224

Hawks are cool.
Buzzards are ugly.

From a distance you can tell a Buzzard (Turkey Vulture) by his wings

and his flight.
They rock back and forth and are as liable to go right as left.
"Rock N Rollers," I call them.
A hawk or an eagle will usually soar with little effort in a circular
pattern.

Second Lesson:
Clean the dust off of your sensor.

Third Lesson:
Get a long lens.
You can never have enough telephoto.
I'm currently stuck at 400mm f/5.6, but I could do some real damage
with the 600 f/4.

Fourth Lesson:
Keep looking and keep shooting.
(This may be the most valuable lesson of all.)

Don't forget to send him a bill and to get him to sign up for a PBase

By the way, those "Buzzards" are Red Kites, and they are a compelling target
for photographers due to their fickle nature, i.e. they just never stay
still long enough ;-)

Love the Sparrow shots mind you, they are very nice indeed.

Not sure but I think the buzzards are hawks.

Nope, definitely Buzzards.. Albeit of the rightpondian variety.

Buteo Buteo or the Common Buzzard..

Love the detail in the sparrows. Nice lens and technique.

Thank you.
