New Canon zoom lenses
I just read an article in a local photo journal about two new lenses that
Canon have brought out. They look pretty interesting. There's the 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 IS DO and the new 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 L IS. Hmmm... Very interesting. I haven't seen any posts on these two of late, but that may be because of my filtering. Has anybody had the chance to test either of them? The DO lens looks particularly intriguing given it's size. It appears to be no bigger than a 28-105mm, but the article I am reading doesn't offer any other technical bits, specifically details of how much the barrel extends when fully zoomed. The price looks horrendous though. The 28-300mm L zoom looks like a replacement for the 35-350mm, but with the addition of IS. If it is anything like the predecessor, it would be certainly worth looking into. I used the 35-350mm for my first ever professional rugby match shoot and I loved it. At the time I had already ordered the 100-400mm IS which I was never really happy with, but if I had to do it again, I think a lens like this would be ideal for the PJ type of work I enjoy doing. If anybody has any input on these two newbies I would be happy to hear it. -- Dallas Group guidelines on http://www.aliasimages.com/rpe35mmur.htm Improve signal to noise ratio by filtering all crossposts. |

Hi Dallas, you can find a lot of usefull info, and test shots from both of these lenses on the www.dpreview.com Canon SLR lens forum. I just recently saw a link there that compares the 24-70L, 100-400 L, 28-200, 35-350L and the new 28-300, with full size samples and everything. Here's the link: http://public.fotki.com/benlanterman/comparisons If you want to see user reviews, just search the forum... That's the best place for Canon lens related discussions. -- ------------------------------ online photo portfolio www.stojcic.com " If you saw a man drowning and you could either save him or photograph the event, what film would you use?" - Anonymous |

Although it's not an L lens, I was told to consider it as in that quality range. What's notable is a very good quality lens in an unusually small size and weight, thanks to DO and the modest aperture. For those who want the quality, but don't need the speed of the fast L lenses, Canon made this lens. Lisa |

The 28-300 is a replacement for the 35-350, which is discontinued.
