(August, 8th) Picture of the Week
wrote in message "Deviens Comme Elle" means "become like her". I believe Daniel was trying to show how young girls and women are trying to become like this model. IMHO I thought it meant that young girls are literally making themselves sick to become like her. Some have gone so far that they even die from some eating disorder. We should be looking for beauty from within a person instead of out---this my humble opinion. This is what I get from Daniel's work. Helen Yes, but tens of thousands will file past her funeral bier and look at her and say, "Wasn't she beautiful"....... |

I can see your point Bill, but this can also be said for a beautiful soul. When I was a child, there was a man who lived alone on our street.Ignorant people would stay clear of him and even make fun of him.He had a skin disease where he had small tumors all over his body, especially his face. Not sure what kind of disease it was, but it was not contagious. Doctors told him he wouldn't live past 30 years old.It didn't stop him for doing what he loved best, and that was helping people. This man went above and beyond the call by helping his neighbor and anyone who needed it.Taking in stray cats & dogs, helping the homeless, etc.Getting to know him was a treat. He had such a beautiful soul it brought tears to your eyes.He did die at the age of 32, and I remember at his funeral (paid for by donations) everyone said he was a beautiful person.Your comment brought this memory back. I thank God I listened to my mother and gave the guy a chance, because I feel richer just having to know him. Helen |

But your answer reminded me of Kafka's, "Metamorphosis" - It is a short story about a guy who turns into a cockroach......A good read..... |

Looking at Daniel's image, it looks like it's a photograph of a poster that's been defaced with a sticker of some kind. What does "DEVIENS COMME ELLE" translate into English? In any case that makes a photograph of the defaced poster a new work. Deviens comme elle = Becomes like her. Yes, it's a new picture because the original photoraph is to advertise for a product, and the sticker transform the advert in the opposite. In telling that if you buy this product such advertised you'll be like her, and my comment it's that you'll be a fashion victim to put all girls in the same road. http://www.monochromatique.com/photosemaine/ -- Daniel Rocha | Photographie http://www.monochromatique.com |

Not being able to read and understand french caused confussion on my part. Of course that's nothing new there. ;-) Here in the USA we have parodies of posters for adverts. Being more familiar with this advert would bring the expression faster to the mind. Good job Daniel. Just my lack of understanding brought my previous response. Keep at it. Draco Getting even isn't good enough. |

But in this case the "artist" is the creator/applicator of the sticker. You are just documenting or reproducing art. Is that also art? ;-) |
