Resolving a loooong, long term controversy Neekon versus Naykon :-)
Well, listen to the video and remember the sound of it: Neeeeeeeeeekon is the name of the game! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ http://www.nikondigitutor.com/eng/d200/index.shtml It always was, derived from Nippon. I guess however, the issue and some inquiries about the pronunciation of this venerable name will continue to appear here in the group. Its like the never ending quest to decide, its "an organeezation" or rather "organayzation"? Dr. Evil says organayzation, which does not tolerate mistakes, of course. And he was always so dead right! Merry Christmas! Thomas |

A Jaguar auto is a Jag_You_Are.
A Porsche is a Porsh_Ah. A Nikon is a Nigh_Con. Whoops! |

It doesn't necessarily have to be pronounced just like the word from which it's derived. Do all biblical stories originate in the Bibble? |

If you call Nikon Canada's Head Office here in Toronto, they also answer
the phone pronouncing it "Ny-kon". "Charles Schuler" wrote in : "spo" wrote in message ... Charles Schuler wrote: A Jaguar auto is a Jag_You_Are. A Porsche is a Porsh_Ah. A Nikon is a Nigh_Con. On a different note, why is Canon spelled "Kyanon" in katakana (Japanese alphabet)? It is entirely possible to write "Kanon" in ^^^^^^^^ syllabary katakana, but in Japanese camera shops you only see "Kyanon". Because, is why. There are those who claim there's a subtle pronunciation difference, but I haven't been able to detect it myself. __________________________________________________ ______________________ Louise "cloth ears" Bremner (log at gol dot com) If you want a reply by e-mail, don't write to my Yahoo address! |

Well, a girl I know from Japan set me straight on the pronunciation, but I still say N_eye_ Con. Bad habit I think. And I do own a Porsche, but generally only other Porsche owners pronounce it right. |

My mother has an English accent and pronounces the name "kya-non" when she speaks English, "kya-noan" when speaking Japanese. But she pronounced "cannon" as "ca-nun" when my father was making one. |
