Default D70 and slow sync rear

Well, here I am on bended knee at the Digital Oracle, looking
for answers (sore throat and slight fever, forgive me my babbling).
While becoming more familiar with my D70 and SB-600, I
discovered that in neither the P or the A mode can I get the camera
and flash in "slow rear curtain sync". I can get "rear curtain sync",
but not the "slow rear". I have tried various shutter/aperture
combo's, but no luck. Just wondering if anyone can suggest something
obvious I might be overlooking.

Well ... on my D70, with or without the SB-800 installed, In 'P'
or 'A' mode, I press the button which pops up the built-in flash, and
rotate the command dial under my thumb until I see "rear" in the top
display. That is *all* that I see -- until I actually *release* that
button, at which point "slow" appears as well. If I switch from 'A' or
'P' modes, the "slow" disappears, but switching back to either of those
modes it returns.

FWIW, I've upgraded the firmware to the 2.0 version for both halves, and
I no longer remember what I got with the earlier firmware. I
was not trying to access that mode back then.

I hope that this helps,
DoN.

REAR inherently includes "SLOW". (You effectively can't have
REAR non-SLOW). So you can take your shutter speeds as low as
you like in REAR mode. There aren't any other combos. In fact,
after I release the flash select button on my D70, the upper LCD
changes from saying REAR to say SLOW REAR (in A mode).

Thanks Don and Ken. That "release" word in both answering posts was
the secret. Ken
