CANON - The Great Pretender

Other Japanese camera manufacturers (including Nikon) manufactured their lenses from optical glass blanks purchased from outside sources. God is in the details. Fuji also made their own glass, still do AFAIK. We might be thinking of different time periods. In the early 1970's, my memory is that Fuji was _not_ notable in the United States photographic marketplace. (I have traveled in Western/Southern Europe and in Morocco -- 1997. Fuji film is very prominent in these marketplaces.) My early 1970's United States memories: Film: Kodak and Ilford. Papers: Kodak and Cibachrome. Inexpensive zoom lenses: Vivitar and Soligor. Ritz offered some 'house brand' optics -- I have no knowledge of them. Flash units: Vivitar. The independents and hobbyists that I knew used Minolta($$) and Canon ($$$) SLRs -- no Nikons ($$$$). I never have seen (much less touched) a Leica rangefinder ($$$$$). I have seen but not touched a Hasselblad SLR ($$$$$$). IMO, both Honeywell Pentax and Asahi Pentax SLRs already were out of favor in the early 1970's. Honeywell offered Strobonar professional flash units powered with a belt-mounted 510 volt battery -- no experience. I do not remember any Kodak SLRs. "All Rights Reserved"? If I 'right' must I reserve? I gut no problems. Other people gut problems. 00: 18+ _8 02 03/35 06 09 Richard Ballard MSEE CNA4 KD0AZ -- Consultant specializing in computer networks, imaging & security Listed as rjballard in "Friends & Favorites" at www.amazon.com Last book review: "Guerrilla Television" by Michael Shamberg |

Atkins once said: "I suggest that all Nikon/Canon owners sign a truce and form an alliance to trash Minolta and Pentax, who *really* deserve it!" I should point out, so people don't think that I'm a Republican, that he followed that statement with, "(THIS IS A JOKE, repeat, THIS IS A JOKE)." |

To hell with trashing Pentax and Minolta. It's time to go after the great
grey totem. Let's trash Leica - after all, with the death of Cartier-Bresson, there are now no Leicas being used for photography. All ther remaining Leica owners won't put film through them as it lowers the value of their investment, and they might bend the hang tag. -- http://www.chapelhillnoir.com home of The Camera-ist's Manifesto The Improved Links Pages are at http://www.chapelhillnoir.com/links/mlinks00.html A sample chapter from my novel "Haight-Ashbury" is at http://www.chapelhillnoir.com/writ/hait/hatitl.html "Steven M. "nikonpro" wrote in message ... CANON - The Great Pretender One of Nikons finest moments in its history was the launch of the D1. This without doubt made many jump (back) to Nikon - history has shown - at least since 1999 - that Nikon rule Pro 35mm Digital. Numbers from reality do not agree with you. And...it gets tougher for Nikon--The 1D Mark II is the most sought-after pro body by far. |

If what you want out of life is a plastic auto-everything camera which shoots dozens of frames-per-second, why don't you buy yourself a Super-8 movie camera? |
