Default Sony a99 / a99v

The full frame a99 is announced in two flavours, the 'v' model having a
GPS receiver to tag photos. (Though there is a 3 hole "GPS" position
behind the accessory connection panel suggesting the GPS is an "add on"
and not a "built in" - need to see more on this).

Per one site, only the 'v' model will be offered in the US (I presume
Canada as well).

$2800.

I'll stick to my a900 for now I guess (with separate GPS to record
locations).

[sorry for the double post to rpd, meant to x-post to both groups]

They sure didn't make it pretty. The microphone grills - with the
apparently deliberate attempt to make them look like air-vents for Darth
Vader's helmet - makes me think they did this on purpose.
OTOH, the pursuit of pure functional design efficiency can have results
like this:

"The Omega 120, released in March 1954" is an example of plastic
injection molding die design before computer modelling and CNC
machining had developed to any extent. Many of us have forgotten or
even failed to realise just how much the development of the computer
has reshaped our culture.

Looks a little like a Canon.

That EOS-1V look, I agree.

This?

Yep - it's painted with the same ugly stick.
Nikon should have patented the Pronea "look" - it might have saved the
world from such design gems.

Can't patent a look.
You could trademark it, however.

Default Sony a99 / a99v - $2999 in Canada (Sony store)

Despite the US$ being worth less than the CAD$, the price of the a99 in
Canada is higher than in the US ($2799) by 7.14%.

(Henry's and others will likely have it at a lower price - but then that
goes for B&H as well...)
