Default APS-C in compact

Do you think there is any chance we'll see APX-C size sensor in compact
digicam ?

After all, the film compact camera use to take 24x36 mm film...

I find the biggest problem with dSLR cameras is transport, they're just
too big. You obviously couldn't get as good a lens on a compact, but I
think that still would be a really good compromise.

What do you think ?

Doubt it. It would be very hard to make a compact with that size sensor. The
lens would have to be much larger and heavier to handle the larger sensor.

What I would like to see is someone like Panasonic update the FZ series to a
APS-C sensor with matching Leica lens. I know this would make the camera
larger, but if it can be done with a dSLR then it can be done with the FZ
and even with the size and weight the same as a dSLR with an 18-200 or
28-300 lens it would still be worth it. I would be willing to carry around a
dSLR/Lens sized FZ to get the better image quality and still have most of
the zoom range if not more.

Why would the lens need to be larger and heavier than an APS film
camera's lens? That's the part I've never understood. Lots of those
APS film compacts were pretty tiny.

Compact? Far from it. That thing is huge!

sure, if they were pretty wide. But, with, say, 10x or 12x tele zoom, lens
would be quite big. It's all simple physics, nothing more.

True, but I don't want a 10x, I'd be happy with 3x or a 4x like what most
compact have today.

hm...this is unfortunatley a must...big sensor, big lens. this is how things
work. That's one of main reasons that sensors in compacts are kept small.
