A good test to see if the lens is sharp enough for the sensor is to run a USM filter on a well-focused image with fine detail image at native resolution, set the strength to about 300, and see what the smallest radius is that has a big effect. If 0.4, for example, has very little effect, but 1.2 has a big effect, then the image is resolution-limited by the lens, and not by the sensor. -- John P Sheehy |
