It doesn't seem like that long ago when I could shoot those from ground

I didn't even crouch very hard - just held the phone low to snap the
shot. Biggest problem was keeping still for what would likely be a long
exposure. Photo shown is a crop - about 20% of the original frame.

I don't think so - like all iPhone photos done in low light and hand
held it looks like a noisy bit of trash with wildly out of control
hightlights.

I consider composition first. I am immune to noise in nature shots, and
the highlights can be readily disposed of in post. But, That's me. As
you well know, others here differ.

I don't deny that noise reduction has never been a priority for me.
Also, there are times when I would rather have a noisy image, than no image.

And well they should.

Burned out highlights can never be readily disposed of other than
filling the space with something. I'd rather do it right in camera.

I don't mind the odd little bit of burned highlight, but in the case
above it is a significant part of the subject. Just not usable. Had I
exposed for that, the stem would not have been visible in useful detail.

Of course with my "real" camera and shooting raw, there would have been
no issue at all.

Composition should be as right as possible in camera - but can
sometimes, even often, be saved with appropriate cropping.

We really should try to get things as right as possible in the camera.
But, **** happens. I would rather get a bad shot, than n shot. I can
then either fix or discard the bad shot. With no shot I do not have that
option.
