what about microlenses
that are adjusted for the angle of the light rays?
could these correct for the angle of incidence?

That should help, but I can imagine it is difficult to shape the
lenses in such a way that they can accomodate different exit pupils
equally good.

Bart

Exit pupil position is pretty stable among SLR lenses, at least for
the Nikon F mount. Its shorter than you would think for telephotos
(to avoid upper rim ray vignetting), and much longer than you would
think for wideangles.

Isn't there some potential problems with the angle of the light hitting the
sensor? Can the mount effect that?

No, that depends on the lens design.

Regarding angle of projection on CDD or CMOS sensor: Olympus
was explaining this also on their pages as they presented the
design of their 4/3 lenses. There is clearly an issue here.
CCD/CMOS cells have some depth and light will be projected
partly against their walls. This is surely corrected somehow
in the hardware (maybe even by the use of micro lenses?) or
in the firmware by correcting the exposure values of corner
pixels.

heh... thinking of this, how about the georgetteous foveon? ;-

if a single-plane ccd/cmos/lbcast/whatever sensor has issues with light ray
angles, then how about the much 'deeper' three-layer thing?
