New Leica SL has a 4mp EVF!

Will be interesting to look though it, even though I wouldn't spend $12,000 on this with a lens, though I think the asking is worth it. The camera looks like it's built like the proverbial tank. It's not 4.4 megapixel - it's 1.47. The 4.4 million is "dots". On that basis, a standard HDTV screen (1080x1920) has 6.2 million dots, and UHDTV around 25 million dots. The Leica can come with a kit lens, variable aperture, for about $5k. $12,500 for an FX mirrorless system with only 24mp. |

I think that the M series are interesting cameras still, but that the rest of the models are breadwinners for the owners of the Leica AG, with the possible exception for the "Q" model. It ain't cheep but nor is its Sony counterparts. -- teleportation kills |

Sony and Nikon both have low pixel, high priced bodies. The price would imply "Magic Pixels (R)" and that would be something that Apple have in their patent portfolio, don't you think? -- teleportation kills |

Everywhere I read about it says 4.4 megapixel, here's the tech specs from dpreview: http://www.dpreview.com/products/leica/slrs/leica_sl_typ601/specifications I've never seen anyone make the "dots" (which I'm assuming is in reference to RGB 'dots'?) distinction when it comes to EVF resolution. DPReview lists my Sony A7 with a 2.4 MP EVF: http://www.dpreview.com/products/sony/slrs/sony_a7/specifications -- Sandman |

Common resolution on old laptops. That's just weird - why would you disingenuously state the number of "dots"? I suppose this is standard for the business, but it's still ****ing dumb. So the Sony EVF is 1024*768 = 0.8MP, and the Leica is 1398*1048 (assuming a 4:3 ratio) = 1.5 MP Still ****ing dumb, but I had no idea - never though about it until now -- Sandman |

Common resolution on old laptops. That's just weird - why would you disingenuously state the number of "dots"? because that way you get a bigger number, and bigger numbers sell. at least sony calls them dots, so it's technically true. contrast that with sigma, who triples the number of pixels and fraudulently calls them pixels. worse, they now have this equivalency nonsense. the quatro is supposedly a 60 mp equivalent, even though it's basically just a 5 mp camera. |
