Wow, look at all the great new products announced today by the industry leader, Canon. http://www.usa.canon.com/html/CIWPRList.jsp?a=b 20D ---- aka "D70 Killer" 580EX Speedlight Powershot A Powershot G6 Powershot S70 EOS Rebel T2 Sure Shot Z180u 3 new wide angle lenses Meanwhile Nikon continues to become a tinier little spot in Canon's rear-view mirror. WHO RULES ???? CANON RULES & Nikon DROOLS !!! Boo-****in-hoo. Industry leader my ass. The only area that you seem to see a lot of Canon stuff in is sports. Kind of limited market, especially considering that it is the worst paying field of photography there is. Even mall photographers earn more with Seagull cameras than sports photographers do with Canon gear. But your writing this thread reminds me of my two year experience with Canon: D30 - died after 14 months of average use. Had to threaten legal action. BG-ED3 grip - I went through THREE of those in two years. 420EX - two of those suckers. 550EX - two repairs. 28-135mm IS lens was very wiggly when I traded it in. Yep, gotta love those industry leaders! -- Dallas www.dallasdahms.com "Is that a Nikon? Omigod! Can I touch it?" |

Wouldn't that be "D100 Killer"?
From: Alan Browne That too. And unfortunately makes things a bit bleak right out of the gate for those of us looking forward to the first Minolta Maxxum 7D that will come out this fall... It's odd (in an interesting way) that Canon made the 20D available for review by so many guys (Reichmann, Galbraith, Steve) just as it's being introduced (and a month before Photokina) but Minolta hasn't done the same thing with the 7D even though they announced it last February. If the AS-on-a-sensor works for up to 2-3 stops (like the better VR and IS lenses) you'd think Minolta would be eager to get this reviewed so people would be talking about it. This seems to be the most innovative feature of this camera and their main hope of wooing anyone other than current Minolta lens owners. But 6 Mpix competing against 8 Mpix is otherwise a hard sell, assuming they are in the same price range as the 20D. |

Well, there you've hit something that might help us Minolta glass holders, the price point of the 20D might hold the 7D down. Then again, due to the glass divide, it won't be a hard limit... the AS is definitely the strongest feature for the 7D as you say above. I think Annika did it first--Google Groups archive will show he was taking this line way back in '00 or '01. Giving Annika/Bret his due, he's nowhere near as irritating as the Prediot. The difference is...Bret sounds like an ass intentionally. George has no choice. |
