Default Large Family Groups

Wedding photography is very specialized

How do photographers manage large family groups?

Is the best policy to "arrange them" according to size etc.

or is it best not to mix in and leave it up to the group to arrange
themselves according to their own family politics, hierarchy.

What's best, any ideas?

Best wishes

From diplomatically right through to being one of the uncles.

Four set ups, two to three shots isn't hard to manage at the right moment,
don't forget age groups.

Once on a local showspot I witnessed another photographer spreading
her wedding party over a large slightly sloped grass clearing, she was using
a four by five with a tilt/swing lens and the party was in groups of two to
five separated by as much as ten yards.

see http://home1.gte.net/rhashiro/photography/weddings.htm for example,
also http://medfmt.8k.com/mf/semipro.html on general issues, links etc.

lots of good books on the subject, and best of all would be working as an
assistant to a current wedding photographer to get the basics.
