Where to buy 12x18 photo albums???
"MarkČ" mjmorgan(lowest even number wrote: I just came home from an art store...and found nothing. It's amazing how little support there is for 3:2 ratio, considering the HUGE numbers of 35mm shooters still in for so many years. Your problem may be that larger prints really are the domain of MF and LF, and those formats are square or squat. Since "13x19", "super-A3", or "ei-suree-nobi" (in Japanese) is an ISO standard, there are cheap folders available for that size in countries not stuck in the pre-modern era. I've not seen any actually for sale (I live on the A4 version of these things, for music, film archiving, and A4 prints), but Canon/Epson/HP display their 13x19 sample prints in the camera stores in these things. So if you print at 13x19 with 1/2-inch borders, there are 12x18 solutions. Although you may have to come visit me to find them. I've been thinking about this myself, but haven't done anything about it yet. The folders that I've seen have plastic sleeves, so you are always stuck with shiny plastic on top of one's prints. One would like something that holds the prints on a backing and then has a cover that can be folded back. And something that looks a bit nicer than the really cheap folders that the printer folks use would be nice. David J. Littleboy Tokyo, Japan |

I'm talking about albums with covered pages made for displaying prints...but that will hold LARGE images.. Don't you have "art stores" in So. Cal?? Maybe even an art skool? I just came home from an art store...and found nothing. It's amazing how little support there is for 3:2 ratio, considering the HUGE numbers of 35mm shooters still in for so many years. I see clear file sheets at 12 x 18 as well, it's finding the binder that looks difficult. They show a "Print File" binder for $58.50. Ouch. I don't see a binder for 12 x 18. JD |

Your problem may be that larger prints really are the domain of MF and LF, and those formats are square or squat. Perhaps, but you're hard-pressed to find even 8x12 frames!! -Drives me crazy. Since "13x19", "super-A3", or "ei-suree-nobi" (in Japanese) is an ISO standard, there are cheap folders available for that size in countries not stuck in the pre-modern era. The ONLY thing I've found so far are flimsy plastic "folders" that hold 20 13x19 sheets. They look like crap... I'm really looking for something that would be suitable on a coffee table, or as a nice looking showpiece for one's work...rather than a cheap, Wal-Mart-looking floppy mess. I've been thinking about this myself, but haven't done anything about it yet. The folders that I've seen have plastic sleeves, so you are always stuck with shiny plastic on top of one's prints. I really don't understand the lack of 3:2 ANYTHING here...when pros are shooting this for weddings...sports...and so many other areas where people like larger prints... Heck...even 8x12. Frustrated, but thanks for thinking about it... -Mark -- Images (Plus Snaps & Grabs) by MarkČ at: www.pbase.com/markuson |

They don't seem to go big enough for 12x18... Seems everyone is completely ignoring 3:2. ?? Ideally, I'm looking for something worth displaying (like leather, or nicer heavy fabric). I like to utilize the whole frame when I shoot and hate having to crop out elements of carefully framed shots just to display them in a reasonably sized frame (without having to pay huge $ for custom frames). Why shoot 3:2 only to crop to 4:3... For smaller stuff, including prints, negatives, and slides, I use: Print File archival preservers: http://www.printfile.com They do have preservers up to about 13x19 too. Roger Thanks for the info, Roger. My quest continues... I've hunted before only to give up in frustration. Somewhere there has to be a company that recognizes the needs of 3:2. Weird... -Mark -- Images (Plus Snaps & Grabs) by MarkČ at: www.pbase.com/markuson |

Mark, While I agree the black plastic art folders are not the greatest, in my view what matters is content and not the book's cover. I have never had anyone complain about the flimsy art portfolio when they have looked at my photos. Of course there are probably a few in this newsgroup who would ;-). I'm really looking for something that would be suitable on a coffee table, or as a nice looking showpiece for one's work...rather than a cheap, Wal-Mart-looking floppy mess. I agree that they are adequate for basic inspection of one's work. I'm thinking more along the lines of "presentation". -Like the difference between a gifted gold watch... You can present it in a nice, classy box...or...in a Zip-Loc sandwich bag. -Ya, the watch itself is what really counts, but there's something to be said for presentation. While there is indeed a lot of "stuff", none of it extends to what I'm talking about. Heck, even the stuff that SORT of does, does not include 3:2 ratio stuff. ....Truly baffling--especially since there are clearly a zillion 35mm and high-end DSLR shooters who would buy it were it offered. -- Images (Plus Snaps & Grabs) by MarkČ at: www.pbase.com/markuson |
