Small digital cameras with good wide angle coverage?
I'm looking for a small digital camera (say the size of a Canon Elph)
but with a good wide angle range. Ie. something that's the equivalent of a 28mm wide angle lens for a standard 35mm camera. My experience with vacations is that wide angle lenses make for much better scenery type vacation pictures. Thanks Ben Slade |

Kodak has a model with two lenses, a fixed 23mm, and a zoom that goes as wide as 37mm (V570). I'm not sure what else in the 'pocket camera' size goes that wide. -dms |

The Kodak dual lens is probably the widest and most versatile, it even
has built in 180 panoramic capability |

Lenses identified by focal length (like 28mm) do not indicate how wide an angle they will be until you know the size of the sensor. You can convert these focal length numbers by using the "factor" For example if that 28mm lens is used on a camera with a 1.6 factor it will be the equivalent of a 45 mm lens on a standard 35mm camera. On some cameras it might even be a telephoto lens. -- Joseph Meehan Dia duit |

Without checking, I'd imagine that the actual focal lengths for the cameras I listed are down in the 5 or 6 mm range; subcompacts tend to have very small sensors with crop factors in the 6x range. -dms |

The wide-angle converter will turn the 35mm (equiv) into a 24.5mm, but it's a bit bulky; http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Cano...s/WC-DC58N.jpg Paul |

Small digital cameras with good wide angle coverage?
Small camera with a wide angle lens. You've just described my phone.
That's an option -- not a good one, but an option none-the-less. I actually used it 2 days ago to document a construction site. I could take the pics and then email while I was there so contractor could see them instantly and see if they wanted to see anything else. "Real camera" was not an option because they was no phone service around, let along broadband or a hot spot. It was really weird. That's life out in the middle of nowhere. Thanks all for the info. The Samsung Digimax L55W and the Panasonic
Lumix DMC-FX01 both look interesting. DPreview.com only has the A55W by Samsung. Is that a different camera?
