Bird ID .... Help!
I've been chasing these guys for months, but finally got a good shot
of one yesterday in a magnolia tree. Any ID help will be greatly appreciated. http://www.pbase.com/bret/image/88659593 |

Hi Annika,
That's a male Northern Flicker you have there and a beautiful shot of it too! -- Tammie in Ontario North of Lake Superior http://community.webshots.com/user/thache "Annika1980" wrote in message ps.com... Northern Flickers have beautiful yellow underwing feathers that are very noticeable when flying. A member of the woodpecker family, they seem to spend most of their time eating bugs on the ground. |

Yes, they are part of the woodpecker family. They are gorgeous birds. They can climb up the trunks of trees and hammer on wood like woodpeckers, but I noticed they prefer to find food on the ground, like ants. |

That's right, ants are the Flicker's favourite food but some will apparently
also try suet, altho' I have never actually seen this. -- Tammie in Ontario North of Lake Superior http://community.webshots.com/user/thache wrote in message ups.com... I notice I have the same birds coming back every year. Tiny sparrows will eat out of my hand. My grandfather, who lived in Bruce Mines, had a pet wild crow. I guess that's where I get my love for birds. |
