accusations of using a star filter...when it was simply the same effect
shown in my photo...which requires no alteration of any kind. I hope the
eagle shot is legit. He sounds honest enough, and insistant enough...

I agree with most of what you say, Alan, but I still see two major problems
in this image:
1) If he's pulled this fish from the water...faster than the splash can
land...then there would be a very significant amount of water trailing off
of the fish. It is impossible to pull a fish up that quickly without this
effect...but there is no water trail.

2) There is a rock or dirt-clod fragment whose presense in the air would
ONLY make sense if there was a rock or dirt-clod thrown into the water for
the splash effect--with chunk of it blowing off from the water impact.
Fish don't swim holding rocks, and eagles don't fly with them.

I'd like to think it's real, but unless these two items work, I don't see
how it can be.

On second examination, I am convinced that this is a composite
shot...despite the assurances of teh photog. Scroll down beneath most of
the comments, and you'll find a larger crop. Within this version, you'll
see the shape of the splash...which is totally inconsistent with talons and
fish splash. It appears to be another image of a large rock that's just
been thrown into the water. Further evidence of this is present in the
larger image... -If you look at the level of about 2/3 down (from the top)
on the left side, you'll find what appears to be a fragment of the rock that
was thrown...and likely shot off of it when it hit the water. Also...there
would be significant water streaming off of the talons and fish, here.
There is none. These problems...along with the complete absense of
reflective brown tones in the water beneath the bird lead me to believe this
is a composite shot...

The eagle-shot, by itself, would still be impressive... Maybe I'm wrong,
but I have serious doubts about this image.

I have both the 1.4 and the 2x. (and the 70-200 2.8 IS).
I wouldn't recommend the 2x for two reasons:
1) It severely compromises the lens optical (blurry by comparison)
2) Unless you've got an EOS 3, 1V, or 1-series DSLR, the 2x will give you a
small maximum aperture of f8, meaning your camera body won't even attempt to
AF. There's a work-around for this involving tape over some lens/body
electical contacts, but the slow speed of AF at that aperture will give you
nearly unusable performance for something like an air-show.

The 1.4 is top-notch, and will introduce only minor optical compromise (and
will also keep you at f5.6--allowing your AF to work as designed).

They don't have to be perfect photos, or even close to perfect. -Maybe just
an you think fits in some way, however minor. Please name the file using

His mole even got in on the act so it didn't look like he was acting alone.
You really have ask if this "Helen" is a female and what she actually does
for a living when she posts messages with links to images taken from Doug's
wife's website and altered with superimposed pornography.

The concept that he can do this sort of totally illegal stuff and not get
burned in the process is about as remote as Helen Silverberg actually paying
modelling fees to the destitute people she photographs.

Julian has his case well underway to bring the ******* to justice. I myself
offered to fly to the US and server the papers personally but seemingly,
Australian Process servers are not recognized in America. The local Sheriff
will do the deed soon enough.

have people take you seriously, learn to edit your typing. You're
mispelling the same words several times. Even in the same sentence.
Using profanity shows the lack of skill and understanding of the
english language. Any hope of having ANY one defend you or help you is
long gone with the diatribes you seem to enjoy posting.
Like a demented child who can only gain approval from his
parents by being contrite of his actions and then going out and doing
the same again. A never ending circle of nasty violence that can only
escolate. Until the child becomes a monster and destroys the very
thing his is searching for, approval. By then it is too late. The
