Default Windows Media Player?

A friend is visiting and is trying to watch a movie she downloaded-
several versions in fact. Each time she starts to launch it, a short
message comes up saying "wrong codec" and saying she needs to get
Windows Media player. All attempts to do so lead to Flip4Mac which she
has installed, updated. As well as VLC and perian.

Any ideas? The file is ca. 800 Gigs.

What is the file type?

I have Flip4Mac with WMV components v.2.3.8.1 installed. Usually all
WMV files will open in Quicktime without issue. When I have file types
which prove problematic, Perian + VLC has alway been the solution.

I suspect there might be a Windows DMR issue. Do you get a F4M WMV DMR
content error message?

Otherwise there might be a QT association problem for that WMV file. If
you are seeing a Windows type icon instead of a QT icon, that is the
issue.
To re-associate follow this procedu

"To re-associate a Windows Media file with QuickTime Player, hold down
the control key and click the file icon to display the shortcut menu.
Next, choose Open With WMV Player.
The WMV Player application changes the file association and opens the
file with QuickTime Player. For convenience, you can add the WMV Player
application to your dock. To re-associate other Windows Media files,
simply drag and drop them onto the WMV Player icon."

Thanks, Duck. I just realized I posted this in entirely the wrong group,
as it's a Mac issue, so I've just reposted in .mac.apps.

I am suspecting it's a DRM issue, though. Tried opening it in all sorts
of apps. But no specific letters for error message that I've seen.
