Photoflo -- Water Spots
"Jeph" wrote in message oups.com... When I process my b&w film I have very bad water spots. I am unable to get to a photo store (or order online) at this time. Is there a home made remedy for this problem? Photoflo worked previously, but, I am out. Thanks -- Jeff Sometimes water spots can be fixed by soaking the film for a few minutes and squeegeeing. If there are rings around the spots they are minerals from the wash water. The rings can often be removed by soaking the film in stop bath for a few minutes and re-washing. I don't know a good substitute for Photo-Flo except other wetting agents. However, you might have luck by using just a drop of liquid dishwashing detergent in water with about 35 ml per liter of 70 percent Isopropyl alcohol. This is common rubbing alcohol. An excellent final rinse is made by mixing about 35 ml of rubbing alcohol, 2.5 ml of Photo Flo and one liter of water. If you use detergent a tiny amount is needed. I think the streaking you got was from using too much. The alcohol should also help prevent streaking. When using the final rinse just hang the film to dry, don't squeegee it. -- --- Richard Knoppow Los Angeles, CA, USA |
