Littleboy Tokyo, Japan Looks very impressive. Build quality appears to leave the 5D in the dust...if it's truly as robust at the D2X (which is how DPreview describes its build quality). Hey Canon! Are you listening?? Give us a 1D body build on the smaller sibling rather than a thicker 20D. Go ahead and kick Canon into shape if you can... Everything I've seen so far makes this look like a VERY nice body. Priced at $1849US, Canon should consider lowering their price on the 5D. -Even though it's a couple MP more, and full frame...the D200 looks to be serious competition for a large portion of the market...especially at that price ($1500US less), frame rate (5fps vs. 5D's 3), and build quality (D2 build vs. Canon's consumer, 20D-similar build on the 5D). Again... Go Nikon! -Mark2 |

Like to see what it weighs with the grip, if it maintains a significant advantage there over the D2x. -- Skip Middleton http://www.shadowcatcherimagery.com |

This is good for all! A good Nikon contender. It is half the current 5D
price. Even though Canon's got full frame, I can't believe that this will not put serious price pressure on the 5D! Nothing like good old competition |

Even though Canon's got full frame, I can't believe that this will not put serious price pressure on the 5D! Nothing like good old competition Without the full frame, the 5D is not much more than a 20D with updated firmware and interchangable focusing screens. What you're paying for is that sensor, and you're paying a lot for it. This being the case, anyone in the market for a 5D isn't going to consider the D200 because it falls at the first hurdle. On the other hand, anyone considering the D200 would be nuts to consider the 5D as well - it's a lot of money for a feature that they're obviously not that bothered about (otherwise why consider the D200?). The Canon camera that the D200 is competing with is the 20D, and on the face of it the D200 looks to be the better camera - you'd expect this given their relative age. The 5D and D200 aren't in the same market segment, and as a result I would expect that price pressure on the 5D froom the D200 would be minimal. The 5D is a "budget" 1DsMkII, not the 20D's ssuccessor. |
