Default Compact camera for my mom

Should be a simple, easy to use compact camera with perhaps a 3x zoom
lens. Inexpensive and lightweight, but which possibly generates nice
colourful JPEGs (my mom doesn't process images).

Is there any camera of this type which stands out a bit or are nowadays
all cheap & small compact cameras (let's say from a major manufacturer)
good enough, so that it doesn't matter which one I buy?

That's not a compact camera.

Should be tiny and suitable enough for your moms needs...

A biological entity that doesn't process images, but demands attention
from its offspring.

I would suggest Panasonic as they have produced some good cameras. From
D P Review I see this model:

http://www.dpreview.com/products/pan...cts30/overview

which is waterproof and 4:1 zoom, although the colour isn't to my taste.

Likely the choice of maker isn't that important, ease of use and quick
access to regularly needed function is. Although, what functions might
your mom use?

They also come in blue. Not in magenta-pink though. Pity, since that
would get any moms girlfriends attention...

And?

Talking of which, I've got 4000 words to translate today, so I'd better get
on with it...

I did note that your speciality was Andalusian to British and not
American...
