Default Nikon D80 number of actuations?

Is there a way to determine the number of actuations using a Nikon
D80?

any decent exif utility will show the shutter count. i use exiftool

http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/

but there are others that will show it too.

Neither Nikon Browse nor EXIF Viewer show a shutter count for the D70 so I'm
beginning to doubt that it's there for that camera,

that's why i said any *decent* exif utility will show it. most exif
tools don't show all the tags. also, early nikon dslrs, such as the
d100, d1, etc. do not write the shutter count field.

I think it has to do with this line:

Exif Version : 0221

Earlier cameras had earlier versions of the Exif software. I have
cameras with Exif v.0120 and 0220 that do not show the shutter count. My
D80 is v.1220 and does show it.

i never looked at the version field, but i do know that some current
canon cameras do not write out a correct value to the shutter count
field. of the few images i've looked at, it is very obvious that the
number is totally wrong; for example, it might be 5 or 6 when it is
quite clear significantly more photos have been taken.
