aperture), you'll be taking 'real money'. There are even faster lenses
made at the 50mm focal length for 35mm cameras - and they are very
expensive (or not very good). Zoom lenses rarely have large maximum
apertures, likewise 'telephoto' lenses and wideangles.

This one is $80 buck. It says it can see what my eyes can see. Sound
pretty good. Will this work for letting more light to go in? Do you know
the different from this lens to the one in my Sony?

That lens is certainly 'faster' than the lens in a Sony DCS-W1 - its
maximum aperture is f/1.8 so it's about 2.5 times 'faster'. You won't be
able to use it on your compact digital camera though; it is made for the
Canon 35mm SLRs with an EF lens mount. Used on such a camera, it will be
capable of performance far better than any digital compact can match - but
it has a fixed focal length, it is not a 'zoom'.

I suspect that "see what my eye can see" refers to the focal length;
traditionally, a 50mm lens on the normal 35mm negative is considered to
give a 'natural' or 'realisitic perspective effect' when you view a 10x8"
print (or 12x8" with no 'cropping') at 'normal reading distance' -
although in fact 50mm is 'a bit on the long side' if you apply the
classical 'focal length = diagonal of negative' rule of thumb for deciding
what is a 'standard' lens. You get the same angle of view (and
'perspective effect') at or near the 'wide' end of the zoom range on most
digital compact cameras.
