Default Water Drops Photographic Exercise - Who's tried it?

I was looking at some of my old water drop pictures and thinking of
trying it again. My favorite technique is putting interesting things
under the glass bowl to get some color in the pictures. I used things
like dollar bills, motorcycle magazines, and blue cloth.

Here are my old ones - http://www.paulstravelpictures.com/W...ops/index.html

I think I need a zoom lens so I can get a closer shot of the drop
jumping in air. Right now I have a 28-80mm on my D100.

Cheers,
Paul

I've tried it, outdoors with a bright sky and some clouds, at an angle so
that the clouds reflections are on the water, this way the water looks more
solid and you see the ripples a lot better.

I was just using my old Fuji s602z with a zoom of around 100mm (equiv).
They came out well, best with a shutter speed of above 1/400th sec.

I posted some at alt.binaries.photos.original with Ripples as the subject.

You do? First, find a used book store and get a copy of "Flash: Seeing the
Unseen with Ultra High Speed Photography" by Harold E. Edgerton and James R.
Killian. Look at their water drop pictures and reflect on the fact that when
those pictures were taken, the zoom lens hadn't been invented yet.
