Default FZ50 noise

Hi.
Someone wrote that if there are noise problems
over ISO 100 one should reduce the camera's resolution
to for instance 6 mpix and the problem is over.

Is it true? If yes could somebody elaborate on this?

Thanks in advance!

Cześć,

It doesn't make sense to me. All that you are doing in reducing the
resolution, which since image noise is single pixel stuff, blurs the
noise and makes it less noticeable.

My noise testing of the FZ50 is he
http://www.dimagemaker.com/specials/cameras/camtests.php

To me a better option, since presumably you bought an FZ50 to get the
resolution it is capable of, is to use a noise reduction filter, like
Noise Ninja, etc.

Cheers,

Wayne

Hi, Wayne.
I saw your tests as well as quite a number of pictures made by other
photographers and they don't seem so bad although people make so much
noise about the noise.
And no, I haven't bought the camera yet. I only consider exchanging
C-765UZ for FZ50, but I don't know... That's why I ask more experienced
persons for their opinions.
Thanks for suggestions.

If the test images don't look so bad to you, you'll probably be happy
with the FZ50. People make a lot of noise about it because there really
is quite a bit of visible noise when you blow high-ISO images up to 100%
on a computer screen. Fortunately, that's not how images are normally
used.

I upgraded my C-700UZ to an FZ30 just before the FZ50 came out and
generally love it. It does no better in low light than the C-700
did, but it handles much better.
