Default Why does DPNews and Review Ignore HP Cameras?

I've been real tempted to consider a few HP cameras. The software is
reviewed elsewhere to be the great. Several years in a row they've won a
lot of awards.

The 818 is real tempting, and now the 927, 8.2 mp, 3" LCD screen. I wish
it had a better zoom capability.

So what up with DPNews and Review?

HP makes garbage. Or should I say, "re-brands" garbage. The only
thing they ever did well with were laser printers and they can thank
CANON for that. Additionally, HP product software is TRASH, worthless
compared to competitors. HP at one time had a sterling reputation for
top of the heap electronic test equipment. Those days are long gone
now. Pretty soon, they'll be at the same level as Vivitar.

Maybe HP doesn't send them any samples to review? Why don't you email
website directly or post a message on their forums.

DP Review won't publish negative reviews. HP cameras and trash, and would
get bad reviews, so I guess unless you have something nice to say, it's
better to say nothing.

HEY! Finally, something we agree on.

Yup, pretty much all they make is cheap junk any more. Thinking back
to the early 70s and it is hard to imagine that they could have fallen
so far in quality.

Hey, they still support the premier most reliable operating system in
the world, OpenVMS... Intel still runs their FABs with OpenVMS.

Strange how they almost always win in one category or more in PMA's
DIMA Digital Camera Shootout. Here are this years winners:
- Under $100 category Mustek, Inc. Gsmart S55
- $100 to $199 category: HP Photosmart M22
- $200 to $299 category: Pentax Optio W10
- $300 to $399 category: HP Photosmart R717
- $400 to $499 HP Photosmart R927 Digital Camera (with premium dock)
- $700 to $799 Leica Camera AG D-LUX 2

DPReview's Phil Askey was a judge this year, and that was announced on
DPReview before the shootout, but the list of winners was not.

What's the judging criteria? Who tallies the results? Is it double-blind and
totally subjective?
