Default Problem with photos to DVD-R or CD-R.

Hi Mort,

I often find the need to send photos by discs, and have noted a problem.
I use Picasa as my photo software. When I burn photos to DVD-R or CD-R,
they play back nicely on my PCs. However, when I try to view them on my
TV set via an outboard DVD player, I get the message that the
correctly-named photo group is there, but they do not appear. Instead, I
get an on-screen notice that no file is found.
How can I burn edited photos from my hard drive to a CD-R or DVD-R,
which will be viewable on a DVD player to a TV set?

Use a video editing program (I use PowerDirector 14) to create a video
slideshow from your photo files. You can add music, transitions, titles,
etc. Then burn a video DVD with your slideshow video.

You can also use a dedicated program that will create slideshow video's
from your photos, such as Photo Stage:

http://www.nchsoftware.com/slideshow/

I have used PhotoStage in the past, but the output video file isn't always
compatible with my DVD authoring programs. A standard video editor is more
work, but the results are better.

My sincere thanks to all the nice people who replied to my query. I will
follow up on this.

If all else fails, I suppose that I can get a large external monitor for
my laptops, just for viewing the photos in a larger size.

You could try DVD+R I found they are more relible when I was saving things to DVD to read on a standalone player which was prety new at the time and it did play some -R but not all.
it might be worth trying a DVD RW but they are usually worse.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your suggestion. I will buy a small pack of DVD+R discs and
try one. My problem is that I have elderly friends who have no computer,
only a standalone DVD player to their TV set. For myself, and for my
computer-owner friends, viewing pix on the computer screen is fine.
Incidentally, I find that these days, only seniors like myself still
enjoy paper prints, while younger folks are fine with viewing and
sharing on-screen images, even on tiny cellphone screens.

What a great newsgroup this is.

In some cases, you have to "close" the disc after recording, or it
won't be playable on some devices. The recording software is where
that option is.

On my sony DVD recorder it was called finalising.

That might be the more common term.

If all you want do is to look at your pictures on a larger screen,
then you can use the HDMI port on your computer to connect to the
HDMI ditto on your TV and mirror the desktop. Provided that your
gear have such, of course...

Thanks a lot. My problem is with my older friends who have no computer
and want to see the photos on their TV sets via their DVD player.

I tried something new today. I burned the photos to a DVD+R as a DVD,
and the results are weird. Under "scenes" playback, I got an
out-of-control slide show that did not respond to stop, next, etc, but
just kept on going. Under "play", each photo started as a close-up, and
then zoomed out to the full photo frame; all automatically and with no
control possible from me.

Frankly, I am ready to quit. It is just not worth the effort.

Thanks again, all, for your help and kindness. It is time for my
strategic retreat.
