Is Coolpix P5000 Nikon answer to Canon G7?

How does P500 compared to G7 in terms of performance, versatility and
image quality?
What about Panasonic Lumix compact camera line which matches with the
G7?

Bzzzzt. The Nikon P5000 has both aperture priority and shutter priority, in
addition to program and full manual modes. Check the control dial on the top
deck:

The P5000 pretty much has it all, in a nice compact package.

I'd put money on them being damn near identical in terms of image quality, the
Nikon being released to compete head on with the Canon. The Canon does have a
zoom lens with a wider range (6x compared to 3.5x) and which is faster at the
long end. Also has faster continuous mode (2fps vs. 0.8fps) if that's useful
to you.

Now I don't know what the shutter delay is like on the Nikon, but my
experience of older Coolpix's is that it'll be a lot slower than the Canon.
You'll only know by trying them out, but if the camera consistently causes you
to miss the shot you were after simply because it does not take the picture
when you push the shutter, it's useless no matter how good the image quality.
