Default iPad 3 - best app for simple photo editing

For the iPad 3, which might be the more suitable program for simple
editing of a photo - e.g. rotation by a small amount to make the horizon
straight. I'm thinking about either iPhoto or Adobe Photoshop Touch.

I have no familiarity with Photoshop on a PC or Mac.

there are a *lot* of options. either of those are good, however, keep
in mind that iphoto will be replaced in about two months with a more
capable cloud aware app called photos.

I have no familiarity with Photoshop on a PC or Mac.

seriously?? none at all??

Adobe Photoshop Touch is by far the best photo editing software for the
iPad. It gives you a powerful editor which gives you the ability to
work in layers, make selections, export full layered files to desktop
PS versions and more. There are also some very good tutorials available
from within the app and online. It worth every cent of the $9.99 price.

I recommend taking a look at what it is capable of with a peek at the
tutorials from Russell Brown & Julieanne Kost.

....and the Adobe community;

That

said if you are just looking for Instagram type effects and stuff along
with most of the other adjustments The best of those is the NIK's (now
Google) *Snapseed*.

There are plenty of folks who have had no exposure to PS in any form.
Your astonishment is a tad overdone.

that someone who enjoys photography has no familiarity at all with
photoshop, a 25 year old app, is *very* astonishing.

it's not exactly an obscure app.

Not exactly.
While I have used Photoshop in many guises since Photoshop LE and PS7
through to the current PS CC 2014, there are some who have never even
test driven PS as they couldn't, in their world, justify the cost. As a
result they used more affordable alternatives. Remember not everybody
needs all that PS has to offer, particularly if all they need are
simple photo editing and adjustment features.
So, just because you and I think of photoshop as a first choice there
are many who, for their own reasons, have not even tried it.

this isn't about owning or even trying it and i didn't say it should be
his first choice.

he said that he is not familiar with it. that's crazy.

he could have read about it or seen it used in a workshop or maybe he
knows people who use it.

it's as if he said he's not familiar with nikon or canon.

Enjoying photography doesn't mean you have to have a computer.

it does for digital photography.

fortunately, just about everyone has a computer, likely several of them.

I am sure he has known of the existence of Adobe and Photoshop and is
familiar with the name. When I hear somebody say he is nor "familiar"
with Photoshop on PC or Mac, it tells me two things;
1: He knows Photoshop exists;
2: He is not familiar with using Photoshop, or any of its features on
any computer he has used.

he could have read about it or seen it used in a workshop or maybe he
knows people who use it.

I am sure he has read about it.
Since he doesn't own it or have it installed on any computer he is
using, or has used, wy would he engage in a workshop for Photoshop?
I have no doubt he knows people who use it. that doesn't mean that he
is in anyway familiar with its features, functions, and potential.

it's as if he said he's not familiar with nikon or canon.

....and that might be an appropriate statement if he has never owned or
used a Nikon, or Canon camera. He could well be aware of the existence
of those cameras and what they have to offer, but he would need some
time with one in hand, together with a manual in order to become
familiar with it.

i didn't say a workshop *for* photoshop, although that's certainly a
possibility.

what i said was he may have seen it used *in* a workshop, which means
he could have gone to a workshop for something, perhaps portraiture or
landscape photography, and the presenter showed how to accomplish
various things in photoshop. that is familiarity with it.

or he knows people who use it who may have talked about what they do
with it.

what he should have said is he hasn't *used* photoshop. not everyone
has.

however, to not be familiar with it is absurd. not only is it the best
selling image processing app but it's the most widely pirated app (any
category).

it's as if he said he's not familiar with nikon or canon.

even if someone doesn't own nikon or canon, they certainly are familiar
with them.

on the other hand, if someone said they're not familiar with lytro, the
camera that can focus after taking a photo, then sure, that's no
surprise. most people never heard of lytro or have any idea that
focusing afterwards is even possible.
