Default Nikon's old 105mm f/2.8 micro-Nikkor showing its age

Here is an example from 2008 using a Nikon 'AF Micro Nikkor 105mm
1:2.8' mounted on a D70

Some of the mottled appearance is likely to be noise but in fact the
camera has cropped the metallurgical grain structure of the coin. I am
sure it would do better on the D750 but the lens's internal electrical
have recently died and cannot be repaired. A pity. For a 25 year old
lens it does very well.

Once you get down to the crystalline structure in the metal, it begins to break up light into its component colours, like a prism or reflection grating.
Here is a shot using Nikon's 60mm macro, quite a decent lens for the price:

Depth of focus is the problem. That's why I went for the 105mm.
