Lense Question
I saw a bit of some Senate or House hearing on the news today and noticed
that one of the photographers had what looked like a 500 or 600 mm telephoto lense on his camera. He was at most 15' from his subjects, why would he need or even want that long a lense at that close range? Steve |

Or, maybe he wanted an extreme closeup of some politician's face. ---Bob Gross--- |

Steve If it was a Canon (white) lens, it might have been either the 35-350 or the newer 28-300 IS, which would be big (7"+), noticeable and serviceable. -- Skip Middleton http://www.shadowcatcherimagery.com |

Are you sure it was that big..a 500 or 600 lens is a monster and way too
long for shooting people at 15 feet? More likely would be something like a 70-200 or 100-400 maybe. If your talking about a fast one of these then the lens is pretty large though, so maybe that is what you saw? For example check out the canon lenses like the 70-200 F 2.8 here http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/con...categoryid=150 add a nice big lens sheild to one of these and it looks like a bazooka..but works great in this type of situation. -- Mikey S. http://www.mike721.com "Steve @earthlink.net" sckenneyrmv this wrote in message link.net... He was at most 15' from his subjects, why would he need or even want that long a lense at that close range? the other responders probably answered the question with the most plausible explanation. but it is possible that it only looked like it was 15 feet away cause the video camera was also using a long lens and the compression effect made it look like they were much closer one more crass reply, maybe the photogs knew they were on view and made sure they swung that big assed lens cause they whined and begged for months for their tight assed supervisors and bean counters would cough up the cash for a piece of glass that cost more than their company car. |
