Default Casio QV-3000EX USB Problem

I've just got hold of a Casio QV-3000EX camera and it seems to work well
EXCEPT that I can't get the photos out of it! I know they're in there; I
can see them on the camera display, and when I connected the camera to a
friend's computer they were easily downloaded, with the camera appearing as
a disc drive. My friend's computer is running Windows XP, and I'm running
Me. I'll list some hard info about my machine :

1. It runs windows Me, and is up to date with critical updates and service
packs.

2. It will happily see my Fuji 4700 as a drive and download pictures from
it.

3. I've attempted to install various drivers (including the Casio win Me
driver for the camera, and the Casio driver on the installation disc.).
None of them worked.

4. I'm sure all the hardware is good; the cable works fine for downloading
from my Fuji camera, and the 3000EX will download to the XP machine that I
mentioned using the casio USB cable.

5. Installed firmware in the camera is version 1.003, which I believe is
the most recent.

This is causing me a lot of grief, and if anyone out there has an idea for
fixing the problem I would be delighted to hear it. I'm sure I haven't
provided all the relevant information, but I will supply whatever is
required if asked.

I can't help much, but I've used a QV3000EX firmware ver. 1.003 for over 3 yrs,
going from Win98 to XP (not ME though). I seem to remember reading at the time
of ME coming out that if ME was an upgrade from 98 where you keep all the 98
settings then you would have USB transfer problems with the QV3000EX. A
complete reinstall of ME from scratch was required I believe. No drivers are
needed for XP. I presume you've seen all the drivers at
